Volunteers Are Our Most Important Asset!  

Thanks for visiting our be an IMBA Coach page.  We are always looking for individuals interested in serving their community by taking on the extremely critical and also rewarding job of being a baseball coach (Head or Assistant coach).  

If you have never coached before and your child is playing in our house league program, considering volunteering as a coach there - it is a great place to start in a less competitive environment that will give you an opportunity to grow and gain experience as a coach.  If you have some baseball experience (Playing or coaching), and your child is considering playing for our higher performing teams - consider applying to be a Rep or Select Head coach (Applications are typically solicited in August of each season).

The IMBA is committed to helping our coaches succeed and have invested a significant amount of time and resources the last couple of season into improving our overall level of coaching.  Better coaching = better baseball program!

Have Questions?  Hopefully we have some of the answers for you below (geared toward House League Coaches)

Q:  I have never coached before, can I still coach?

A:  Absolutely. Every coach at some point was just a beginner like you. Being responsible, committed and a passion to help kids are great characteristics to start. The IMBA is committed to providing you the support you need to help you develop your coaching skills.

Q:  Are there are any prerequisites I need to coach?

A:  There are actually. As a league our mission is to provide our registered players with the best possible level of play and coaching, as such there are some minimum level requirements. Please visit our NCCP (coaching certification) page for more details here.

In addition, any confirmed head coach or assistant coach will be REQUIRED to provide a current vulnerable sector screening check from the police department. Children's safety is the #1 priority of the IMBA and to ensure parents peace of mind as well as ensure the safety of our children this is a mandatory requirement.  

Q:  What are the time committments like for a coach?

A: Typically you will have one practice (1.5 hour) and one game per week (1.5 - 2 hours) (scheduling usually occurs in April/May to determine the day of the week for each). The head coach in addition to leading the practices and games usually will spend some additional time during the week preparing for practices, determining lineups for games and communicating with parents (min. 1-3 hours per week - depending on how much YOU put into it). There may also be some miscelleanous events such as coaching courses, or coaches meetings that require a bit of time as well. 

Q:  Will I get to be the coach of my child's team?

A: When you register your child to play, please indicate your interest in volunteering as an assistant or head coach. You will not be asked to coach a team without your child on it (unless you have interest to do so). Whether or not you get to be a head coach will be dependant on the total number of volunteers registered.

Q:  Can I volunteer to be a coach if I don't have a child registered with Innisfil Baseball?
