Mosquito A Rep Wins Another One!
The Mosquito A Rep team won its second tournament of the season on the weekend of July 28-30, claiming the 42nd annual Silver Bat Championship in Newmarket!
The boys won in convincing fashion, allowing only 11 runs against en route to a 5-0 record and defeating some very tough opponents. They followed up a hard-fought victory over Burlington AA, 8-3, with mercies over North York A and Newmarket A in pool play, advancing to the championship round.
In the semi-final versus Newmarket AA, the tone was set in the first inning with two acrobatic line drive snags by Johnny "JC" Liotta and Noah "Hammer" McGuigan, as well as a terrific sacrifice bunt by Nicholas "Bobby" MacIaac to help manufacture our first run. The Cardinals went on to scratch and claw 4 more runs and ride the arm of Nathan "Chucky" Robinson for 6 strong innings who had his change-up "dropping like The Leviathan", as the game ended in a 5-1 victory.
In the championship final against Richmond Hill AA, the Cardinals continued their strong defensive play, hi-lighted by Jacob "Windsor" Pruitt gunning down a player at the plate on a tag-up attempt. A gutsy pitching performance as well as timely 5th inning RBIs by Elliot "Julio" Cunning and Moe "Ribs" Fellman propelled the Cards to another 5-1 victory.
Congratulations, fellas! Your coaching staff and the rest of the IMBA family are very proud of your achievement!
